Day 11 end

So, this morning we sadly left Las Vegas behind and headed off into the desert toward Escondido, CA.

On the drive out of Vegas Cades was VERY excited to see that many of the locations from the game Fallout: New Vegas, are in fact real places!  We had a fun time working out what spots in the game had real work counterparts on the drive out.

Hardly an hour had passed before we suddenly and without pomp found ourselves in California,

The weather is beautiful here,  It's about 75 and sunny, a welcome change from most of the rest of the trip.  We drove through the Mojave (or at least through part of it) on the way in from Nevada and we were pretty excited to hit some classically desert looking desert.

The drive today was nice and easy really... or would have been if California wasn't trying to thwart us!  The roads were under tons of construction, lanes were poorly defined, and everyone was driving like HUGE jerks.  While California is still nowhere near as miserable as Missouri was, it by far has the worst drivers we've yet encountered.  We did however manage to make it unharmed into the beautiful area of southern California.

We met up with our friend Johan who lives down in Escondido and tried In-N-Out burger for the first time!  We both thought it was good, though not amazing.  From there we met up with another friend from the area and we all went to the Stone Brewery for some drinks, including some very tasty locally made mead that I loved.  The views were wonderful and the company we great, it was a really fun evening.
