Finally an update

It's only been.. 2 weeks since we got to Oregon, not too bad, right? >.>

Honestly there just hasn't been much to tell, but I'll update as much as I can, going back to our final driving day!

Day 14, end... almost there

So!  Back to Day 13 a little bit, we drove up to the Sacramento area to visit my cousin Ashley who I hadn't seen in years.  The visit was wonderful, her kids are adorable, and her husband is great!  We were only able to stay for a few hours, but it was great to just relaxing in a house, feel normal for a bit. :)  Was also great to finally meet her little trooper of a daughter, Maddie, who is only 5 months old and pulling through some serious health issues.

After that we went back south a bit to Stockton for party time with some local friends.  After a not-too restful night on a couch we got up and got ready for our almost final day:

Just a quick update tonight! Today we visited my cousin which was a WONDERFUL time and I was so glad to see her for a while. Now we're down in Stockton, CA at a friend's place hanging out with about 6 of our local area friends. :D

So, this morning we sadly left Las Vegas behind and headed off into the desert toward Escondido, CA.

So, we've only been in California for 2.5 hours, but it already wins for worst drivers and most GPS alerts for traffic, construction, hazards, cops, etc.

Day 9 end: The Journey so Far

So, now that we've arrived in Vegas I can finally sit down and type up our last few days!

Alright, so I guess we're going back to.. day 7?  The morning we left Tulsa, OK and went allllllll the way to Albuquerque, NM.  That was quite the day.

Day 8 end

So, no big post again tonight sadly.  We made it to the Grand Canyon and it's gorgeous but the wifi is terrible so I can't upload pictures and things until tomorrow when we get to Vegas.  Quick summary, the land out here is amazingly beautiful, and though it's hard to see much of the canyon itself right now due to low rain clouds covering most of it, what we can see is incredible.  Big summary post of the last few days coming tomorrow after the drive to Vegas and checking into The Palms. :D

Just a quick post cause there's a comfy bed calling me.  We made it safely to Albuquerque after 13 hours of travel time.  We've had a hot homemade meal and showers and we're going to sleep so hard.

Day 6 end

So, another update now that I am comfortably nestled on a comfy couch.  On day 5 we did the drive from Cincinnati to Saint Louis, a long dull drive through Indiana and Illinois.  the mid-west we're finding on average is really, really boring!

No big post tonight, too tired.  This Motel 6 is a little scary.

Indiana is flat, it's empty, it's boring. The highway is in fact so flat that we're seeing water mirages. If someone tells you that Indiana is a fun place to go to, don't believe their lies.

Day 4, finally headed west.

So!  Today was our first really long haul day.  We started out at 7:30 am in Virginia, and did a morning video some of you may have seen:

So not a huge post today as we spent the say mostly just relaxing, which is going to be a rare treat.  Our day started out with snow and homemade cinnamon rolls courtesy of our host!

We're relaxing at our friends apartment, watching the snow fall, so I thought it was time for a summary of the trip so far.

We have arrived in Annandale Virginia!

Lav and I are getting some lunch at a bagel place across the street from Toastdieb's office, while he finishes up with work for the day. It's really super cold ( sign says 9° ) so we're full coat, scarf, and hat here. Nice and warm inside though, so we're going to hang out here for a little bit longer.

The snowstorm is rolling in, and it's expected to begin snowing in a few hours now, but the roads are already prepped, there's salt and sand everywhere so I'm confident since we are leaving in two days instead of tomorrow we will be OK to begin driving west. It does mean though that we are probably going to have to abandon the idea of getting Atlantic water as a souvenir, which bums me a little but whatever, that just means we'll have to get some next time we're east coast.

There will be edits and pictures later tonight, movie posting is hard! Haha!

Cades log, day 1

Whoo! We are live!

We made it all the way from my parents place in Chamblee Georgia to Durham North Carolina in one day!

That's pretty great because it means we are actually ahead of schedule! Tomorrow we head into Annandale  Virginia to meet up with Toastdieb! Today was supposed to be in stone mountain park, but the weather was going to be really rough, so this is our detour. Because of that though, tomorrow's trip will be shorter than expected.

As of right now we're in a motel 6 waiting on pizza for dinner, and day one is officially over.

Update from car 1

Hey everyone! We're passing through Charlotte NC right now so I thought I'd do a quick update. I can post any pictures from my phone cause that makes the blogger app crash, but we'll add some later.

So far the drive has been easy and fun. Lots of silly side stops and funny things along the road. Lots of minor stories and laughing so hard we can't breathe :)

All in all it's going great.

Good morning!  Lavender here, we're currently at Cades' lovely parents house, doing the last few items of laundry, smelling the awesome breakfast Chuck is cooking and getting everything ready to hit the road.  From this point updates are going to be more sporadic, we're going to try to get a large summary post in at the end of each day, but we might miss a day here or there, and there will be tiny updates of pictures and things being posted randomly along the drive.

Very shortly we'll be leaving Georgia and heading for North Carolina!

POD Day!

Hey everyone!  Lavender here.  Today was packing the POD day, which started with our lovely friend Raina waking us up at 9am to come get our couch.  She brought us coffee though, so all was forgiven.  Our first video comes from just after the couch vanished:

Today we finally hit the kitchen. Bit late yeh? Too bad! Started the morning pretty good, Lavender's melatonin worked great, lots of lost sleep recovered, and we sat around for a little while waiting for...

Don't Skip Kitchen Day

So today was supposed to be a super-hard hit to the kitchen. And we did hit the kitchen, eventually, just a wee bit later in the day then we originally planned.

Upstairs day

So today Lav and I hit the upper floor pretty hard, brought most of the packed stuff down into a large pile (pics after the break) and kept painting the orchid stripe. I loved having that thing there, but man oh man is it vibrant. Its taking some arbitrary number of coats to get it all covered and re-primed, some spots need 4 some need 3, etc. We're also not exactly master painters so I'm sure that's playing a part.

Boxes boxes boxes

Its the Monday before the trip, and so I think it's high time for some regular updates. From here on out I'm going to try to make an update at least once a day.

Lavender and I are both frantically packing tons of boxes. We've put the old projection TV and its stand outside (in the rain no less, RIP tv) and moved the coffee table into the laundry room to clear out a huge chunk of space in the living room!

Just a minor packing update

So the bulk of the non-clothing, non-kitchen packing is done now!  I spent most of a day spackling nail and tack holes and painting on primer.  We've also started trying to cover out big orchid stripe which is taking a great deal more primer than we first anticipated.  Another short video tour of the apartment:

First Pre-move post!

Hello friends, family, and random internet strangers!  This blog is going to be where you can find all the information about our cross-country move!  For those of you confused by our display names/blog title, we're using our normal online handles, Lavender and Cades. :)

So, some basic info to get everyone up to speed, yes?  Now that Cades has finished school we're moving out of Georgia and off to Portland, Oregon!  Thanks to a gracious graduation gift from his parents we have the chance to turn that move into not JUST a move, but a 2 week vacation drive across the US.
