Day 2 is over

We're relaxing at our friends apartment, watching the snow fall, so I thought it was time for a summary of the trip so far.

Things on day 1 were pretty uneventful.  We ended up driving around Cowpass, South Carolina for about a half hour looking for a farm store that was closed.  Otherwise though it was a nice easy drive all the way to Durham where we got a room at a pretty janky Motel 6, ordered pizza, watched Captain America and passed out around 9pm.  Haha, exciting!

Day 2 we got up and out of the motel around 8am.  This is our morning update from day 2:

Also sorry about the text youtube links, the blogger app, as it turns out, is not great for posts that involve photos or video.  So there will probably be links posted while on the road that will then be integrated into our evening post done on the laptop.

The most exciting events of Day 2 were seeing a truck pulled off the side of the highway who's entire engine was just in flames about 3 feet high.  This was in the middle of nowhere in Virginia, which as it turns out a LOT of Virginia seems to be in the middle of nowhere.  We were very excited when we hit the civilization of Richmond:

but just as fast as it came it was gone and we were in the woods again.  We hit some serious traffic on I-95N which turned out to be rubberneckers looking at rescue vehicles trying to winch up a car that had gone off the side of the highway into a ravine.  There was even a helicopter parked on the highway!

Just a quick shot I took of the rescue vehicles as we went by.

Those 2 events (the on fire truck being the first) have got to be worth TONS of car scavenger hunt points. :)  Sadly I haven't been able to find much information about the car that went off the highway, but I haven't seen any mentions of anyone being killed on 95S today so thus far I'm going to assume the driver made it out alive.

After that we made is nice and smoothly to Annandale and met Toastdeib at his office:

We grabbed some food (finally!) at a lovely little place called Bagel Time nearby

Then the snow started!  Cades, having not seen a ton of snow in his life, has been really excited about this, as we can see:

Thankfully, our host is from Massachusetts and knows how to drive in snow, so we made it to our dinner reservation only 10 minutes late!  Toast took us out to a hibachi grill for the first time for both of us!  It was awesome!  Huge food portions, and our cook was a nice chatty young guy who loved hearing about our roadtrip.  For tonight I leave you with a shot of the cocktail Cades got with dinner as we curl up in blankets and watch the snow. :)
